In a January 6th interview to Bloomberg, Samsung’s executive vice president, Lee Young Hee gave some hints as to what we can expect from Samsung’s upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S5. Hee referred to the Samsung flagship as “Galaxy S5” clearing out speculations that it will be called something else.

Lots of rumors and leaks regarding Samsung Galaxy S5 have been circulating in the internet which includes the GFXbench leak where we saw the supposed specifications of Galaxy s5 and reports also appeared in Korean websites which said the S5 would have a QHD display, iris scanner and fingerprint reader and would come in both metal and plastic version. The iris scanner is likely to make its appearance since Hee stated that Samsung is experimenting with iris scanner tech that uses sensors to scan your eye and unlock your phone.  Hee in previous reports admitted that Samsung may have fallen short of consumer expectation because the design of Galaxy S4 was very similar to Galaxy S3. Hee said , “For the S5, we will go back to the basics. Mostly, it’s about the display and the feel of the cover.”

Since Samsung has been working on a next gen mobile processor and a high capacity memory chip, we can expect the S5 to come with a 64bit processor like in iphone 5s and 4GB of RAM.  Samsung is also is expected to launch Galaxy Gear 2 along with Galaxy S5. According to Hee, the Gear 2 will have a better slimmer design than its predecessor.

Hee said that S5 would be launched before April 2014. It was previously expected to be released at the Mobile World Congress this February but this new piece of information hints at a possible release somewhere around March.

A few days back, @evleaks leaked screenshots of the new smartphone UI that Samsung is working on right now. Since this is not the final work, the end result is expected to have a lot more tweaks and enhancements.
